Impressive results emerge regarding the added value of the anti-pollution stations for lubricants and fuels supplied by ELIN to members of the Blue Municipalities Network. Already, in three members of the network, local communities have used the equipment to address pollution incidents!
This is because the stations are a tool that can be used easily and quickly, without losing time on bureaucratic procedures and equipment transportation. The equipment is located on the docks, providing immediate access to port authorities and the fishing community. For this reason, the response from local authorities was immediate when there was a need to contain pollution from boats docked at the piers of Antiparos and Santorini, as well as in the case of a fishing boat wreck in Paros.
The conclusions from this pilot program are encouraging and offer directions for additional improvements and interventions regarding this issue, which is evident in the majority of ports. A significant factor in this direction is the activation of local communities and their positive assessment of the initiative’s usefulness. The donation of stations will continue to other members of the network as well!
