Aegean Rebreath, another member of the Blue Municipalities Network, was delighted to visit Kasos island with the goal of implementing holistic actions for the marine environment. Educational programs, research activities and a harbor cleanup took place in just 1.5 days. The distance and weather conditions posed challenges for the environmental organization’s team, who expressed only their joy at being in the Municipality of Heroic Island Kasos, demonstrating that the priorities for network members remain the same regardless of distance.

The island’s mayor, Mr. Michalis Erotokritos, warmly welcomed the Aegean Rebreath members, discussing with them the challenges the area faces and attending the harbor cleanup operations with great interest. He emphasized that “the implementation of such initiatives represents crucial actions for environmental protection and expressed hope for more frequent visits by Aegean Rebreath to the island”.

This initiative carries particular significance, as its support came from Greek-Canadian Stephanie Maris Hicks, who demonstrated her deep commitment to protecting the environmental wealth of an island far from tourist exposure.
