The municipality of Thira is a member of the Network, while the Municipal Port Fund of Thira (M.P.F.) has been an informal member since the establishment of the Blue Municipalities Network. The Municipality of Thira in collaboration with the M.P.F. of Thira have implemented the following practices for the conservation of the marine ecosystem:
- 2 Marine Litter Collection Stations at the fishing shelters of Vlychada and Monolithos that have contributed to the collection of 18,300 pieces of recyclable materials and 9.45kg of fishing gear (2019-2023)
- 3 pilot projects
- 4 widespread initiatives including underwater and coastal cleanups.
- 2 research programs that included sampling and analysis of seabed sediments and microplastics
- 2 educational programs in primary and secondary schools
- Extensive consultation with the civil society
- 5 Blue Flags in 2023 for the beaches of Ag. Georgios, Vlychada, Kamari 1, Kamari 2, and Perivolos
