With two more visits to Poros and Lefkada, the program for the delivery of equipment for fuel and oil spills from ELIN to members of the Blue Municipalities Network has been completed. This program, which started four months ago, was based on the consultation developed with the members of the Blue Municipalities Network. Four municipalities located in four different regions were selected for the first year of the program’s implementation.
So, after the islands of Santorini and Alonissos, representatives from our organization and ELIN visited the island of Poros (in the Argosaronic gulf) and the island of Lefkada (In the Ionian Sea) to deliver the relevant equipment to the local authorities. Both visits were very successful as representatives from the fishing community, municipal and port authorities attended the delivery of the equipment and the training workshops.
The program gained the attention and interest of the local communities and offered valuable conclusions to our organization about the added value of this initiative. It is no coincidence that the local communities considered it to be a particularly useful initiative against a problem that happens regularly in the ports all over the country. Finally, the program is expected to continue in the next year, so other members of the Blue Municipalities Network can benefit from this initiative.
